Another Web 2.0 Micro-Blog Site Bites the Dust!

I just got an email, like so many other users from Pownce that they are going to shut down December 15th. If you have set up your account you are urged to export your files and posts before they close for good.

“We are sad to announce that Pownce is shutting down on December 15, 2008. As of today, Pownce will no longer be accepting new users or new pro accounts.

Pro Pownce users should visit http://www.sixapart.com/pownce/pro.html for additional information.

To help with your transition to another service, we have built an export tool so you can save your content. You can find the export tool at Settings > Export. Please export your content by December 15, 2008, as the site will not be accessible after this date.

Gone … and Quickly Forgotten?

I am only going to speculate, but chances are good they are not going to re-launch Pownce, at least not in the near future.

It had appeared that Pownce was a popular site, but offered nothing to really set it apart from other microblogging sites. They will be missed possibly, but they can be replaced.
